yuk, but the thing I really don't like is that "Jimi Hendrix" is the band listed, it was a tribute concert!
I think there were some really good guitar players on this tour, none of them are mentioned. . .
Art said: 'he was a honest-to-god freak. a human sideshow oddity. he would have died no matter what happened to him.'
*whispers* This is true for ALL of us, Art,...
ya, somtimes. I am used to it tho'. at the record store EVERYONE is shocked to hear that i don't like their "heroes"....Jimi, SRayVaghan, and the Doors all on a regular basis...
Hendrix had some cool tunes, nothing big. Had he lived he would have made lame-o disco albums like everyone else. Today he'd have a "hip hop" CD out on Sanctuary.
Skip Spence's Oar album has two awesome psych cuts, otherwise overrated by hipster collectors.
This poster? It's just wrong.
janis wasn't fat. you've seen the nude photos, right? she wasn't fat, unless you go for that "concentration camp" look so popular these days. i think the fashion industry calls it "herion shiek". seems like you couldn't fuck them skinny chicks without craking a few ribs. "put it in soft and listen to the bones snap as it gets hard". heh.
janis looked like a real woman.
Hendrix was a true master of his craft. A magician of a musician !
Yes, he may have been a dick onstage sometimes, but the poor guy had to reinact the Monterey Pop Fest every time he set foot onstage. Nowadays, theres really nothing to compare him to beacause most mainstream artists are prepackaged !
the moby grape started out as the frantics from the northwest. they had a regional hit with a song called "werewolf". come psychedelia, they moved to san francisco and got a new lead "singer" skip spence,a nd became the moby grape., they stuck it out until spence flipped out and attacked the rest of the band with a fire axe.
frank, you would have fucked janis. everybody else did.
remote -
i'm nearly 50. i saw hendrix wheni was about 14 (my first concert ever).
and i'm not "bitching" about hendrix, i'm DESCRIBING his perfomance. i actually admired what he was doing - he was fighting the preconceptions of his audience and attempting to move on. too bad he died within 3 months of that show, he might have done some interesting stuff.
if i were "bitching" about him, i would have said that i thought he was shit and i hated him. you might note i didn't do anything like that. in fact i compared him (favorably) to miles. and i always consider freaks to be suprior beings in all repects...
i saw him play. he was not a very nice guy. he bad-mouthed the audience and bad-mouthed the city (he HATED seattle) and turned his back on us and called everybody names and insulted us and played badly and showboiated and said things like< "i bet you whiteys want to see me play with my teeth. well here you go (plays some sour noise with his teeth). that satisfy you?" shit like that.
very cool. miles davis on bad acid and downers.
a friend of mine claims he once saw hendrix offend the audience to the point where they started up onto the stage to get his ass, and he went to his stacks and smashed his guitar into it to the point where he had such huge feedback that it forced the angry crowd off the stage.
dunno if it's a true story, but hendrix was one nasty s.o.b. on stage.
punk? spot the difference...
SHIT !!!! I thought for a moment disney were doing a hendrix animated story... I think maybe its a lil overdone in the Bright colour/eyesore area... maybe this rocks in person, but a this size, hmmmmm
