funny. i was living in seattle, interning for the seattle police department in the summer of 94, when superchunk and polvo did this tour. i was psyched to see some bands from home. but i was nineteen, and all the clubs in seattle (the show was at moe) were 21 and up. i got out a rapidograph and went to work on my n.c. drivers license, going over the then-dot-matrix type with an altered birthdate. it looked great. to me. the guy at the door took one glance and said "you can leave now, or i can call the cops." i left. i didn't want to get arrested by my boss ...
by the way, jamie, if you like polvo (and you should, because they are one of the greatest bands of the last 20 years), be on the lookout for BLACK TAJ, the new band made up of dave brylawski and steve popson (guitar and bass from polvo), grant tenille (kinko's guitar god), and charles (excellent drummer with unknown last name). they are a powerful mix of the best of classic rock and the tweaky stylings of polvo.
great illustration. that dude's at his apex. she knows it, too.
i saw them on this tour in at emo's, when the stage was where the soundboard is now.. had never heard polvo before. they blew superchunk away.
