UnitusSend Unitus a message :   actually, i saw a bunch of jermaine's posters up in Houston and Soundwaves record shop had a ton hung up. after flatstock, i thought it was cool to see some of these posters actually "in use"...   2003-03-17 18:48:35
maynardSend maynard a message :   Very good idea... a roundtable or conference kinda thing would be great.
I learned A TON just talking with everyone I could grab at FS2. The incredible thing is that the "names" don't hold back advice or suggestions. And everyone actually listens to each other's ideas... if we can do something along those lines at FS3 it would be invaluable carreer-wise.

JermaineSend Jermaine a message :   Yep, they do. The 'eclipsing' has led to 'stealing'.
And frankly, even if they weren't, perhaps you think I should wave my hand and shake my head...and turn down the $$$ they offer me to do stuff for them?
This is NOT 1980. 'Evolve or die.' Very seriously. Things are definitely changing: weve discussed that here before. The question is, 'where do YOU want to go?'. Either way is fine, just know that there are very different endings for each road. But there is no general 'ethical' reason to choose either/or. I sincerely believe that. I've like really studided the guys who've come before me and have achieved some sense of 'name' success (which always seems to equal $$$, which buys TRUE artistic freedom). Theres like these things that theyve all done. Its really not hard to like, make a list of what theyve done...and like, imitate what's worked...career-wise. Its really not about $$$. Its about the freedom artistically...and the artistic power that you get when people collect 'you'...and not just 'band posters'. Know what Im saying? See...this is why next FS3, I am personally going to organize a quiet-type gathering on one of the evenings...so that we can talk about this stuff in little groups...or even one big one...

PediniSend Pedini a message :   I can understand the eclipse strategy. I however did not see any of these doing any eclipsing in Austin. Does Emo's ever put up any of yours to advertise?   2003-03-17 15:51:22
JermaineSend Jermaine a message :   Mark... As cruel as it sounds, here's some real-world fact: one of the primary purposes of marketing IS to eclipse the other guys advertisement. The people who hire me want me to create a poster that makes 'null-and-void' EVERYTHING else around it.
'Size' is one of my 'allies'.

PediniSend Pedini a message :   Ok, devil's advocate time. Where do you actually POST a poster this big? There are few places that can handle something this size where oversize posters get posted, but I did not see any up around town. I'm easing into the whole concept of rock posters as commemorative pieces of art, but I still don't agree with them ONLY serving that purpose. Hence the comparitively diminutive size of my own posters. 'Cause they like, fit on the billboards without eclipsing the other advertisement. Any thoughts?   2003-03-17 15:13:56
MURPHYSend MURPHY a message :   The traffic around Jermaines booth was almost as bad as L.A. :o I thought people were going to start forming a human pyramid   2003-03-17 14:59:23

Mr FrumpySend Mr Frumpy a message :   Aww man. I cant read the writing on the bottom. Sweet poster... Did they ever move the statue of Jimi from the Seatle Zoo, to somewhere a lil better? I wonder, if they did a Statue of Cobain, would they just find some old statue, and cut the head off? Tasteless joke... yep.!!   2003-03-12 01:03:49
