doesnt look like Phil Collins for crying out loud. Interpol is totally legible. type is fine. i agree however that the cartoon aspect of this works against it. Metropolis is a dark movie and Interpol at least tries to be a dark band. i dont think this pop art primary color look suits them much.
i agree with most of the comments.. i think it needs more working out though. the robo paul banks and the headline aren't friends. together they unfortunately look too cartoon network, which doesn't quite give off interpol's barren-pressed vibe. i would have liked to see the interpol done straighter and kept within the inner border. let the name speak for itself. right now it feels like the two images are fighing for my attention.
i have absolutely nothing agains stealing ideas. everthing's stolen from one place or another. but if you're gonna steal, then steal, don't borrow.
not a bad poster, anybody can pick out the "Metropolis" takeoff I'm sure. Always liked the typeface that was done in. It does look like a Robot Phil Collins tho.
yeah dave, but you more than get by with all that grunting and pointing.
And though this is not my perfect design for Interpol I can read Interpol quite easily.
Seripop,
I just checked out some of your work. MY poster is hard to read?
Your points regarding the type treatment have been noted … something for me to think about in the future. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I have not yet encountered anyone who has seen the actual poster and expressed any difficulty reading the headline.
ok first off on the "interpol " type the strokes are totally uneven making it very hard to read
look how wide your "i" is compared to the "p"
it doesn't make any sense visually
also the smaller info is not kerned- you would really need to fix the spaacing when doing type on the computer
it just doesn't read well
basically the type looks like it was just done added on at the very end
for the best results u should plan and included yr text from the very beggining
the text is also crowded- u shpould have put more space between the headline and opener. that's all for now.
the interpol type just looks wrong
it's all funy chunky and has no real sould
the art deco type doesn't really jibe with the futurist illo
and the placement is awkward
how it goes is people are alway ripping ideas off.
sorry i'm really tired and english is not my first language
well it could be worse.. the font itself harks back to deco styles, but the "interpol" and rest of the poster has lost any of that original feel, thus making the deco style font look out of place with the updated look of the rest of it.
Pisstake, takin' the piss, etc. It pretty much does mean satirising, but in a less intelligent sense. Heres a bad jpg of the original poster, http://www.allposters.com/gallery.asp?aid=73315&item=1390.
Does'nt anyone know their design history?? Its a rip off of the the old METROPOLIS film poster by Schulz Neudamm from 1926. Not sure if its supposed to be a pisstake, but if not its a rip-off.
