Okee so I checked it out.
Here's Art's logos:
this one I saw before I posted my poster:

this one I missed:
http://factor27.com/dev/geoff/artlogo2.jpg
regardless if you know me you know I don't rip off stuff and if you've seen
Art's book there's about a bazillion logos in it. Impossible to remember
every one of them to avoid creating something similar. Again I did this
poster BEFORE looking to see if Art had something similar.
So what if these are very close. Does Art not repurpose ideas
in his work? Does it mean if he got the idea from somewhere no one can repurpose that idea?
This is also a photo of my clamp off my vacum table as well. 100% original
imagery. I even wrote Art before I saw his post about his book to tell him to check this out and said and I quote:
"BTW I totally ripped your type treatment style for my last poster for grand champeen that just came up on ol' GP. So much that I had to go back to your book to make sure I didn't lift the whole thing subconsciously before I posted it. Hope you see the nod. I can't shake how much of an influence you are on my style."
Once again Art has all the ideas first but I still stand by my version being
well executed with the exception of a little more detail to the text
fracture pattern.
interesting piece of history and WAAY off topic...but the moonlight towers here in austin were commissioned to be built to shed light all across the city when we had a serial killer loose in the late 1800's. he was very "jack the ripper" like before jack the ripper did his killing...he was called the servant girl annihilator...the guy killed about 8 people, mostly servants, for about a year then quit...never found him...
next time you see a moonlight tower...know that they were looking for a killer...
Art has a logo that's similar to this. His is a press not a vise. I saw it after I printed this. I have not seen Engine House's. This is the poster i referenced although not very well:

art did a logo like this for a record label i believe. also there is another poster her that has a similar image:
http://gigposters.com/posters.php?poster=6686
And Chloe's not too far off. It is supposed to reflect pressure from the vise. that's why the Grand is bent down and the Emo's is pushing up. the fracture lines aren't perfect though. but this was a total last minute gig and I had too much to do to spend any more time on it. doesn't suck though.
see pgs 18 & 91 of "some people can't surf"
now I intentionally went back and looked at that book AFTER I did this because it looks so much like a Chantry piece. I didn't want to post it if it was too close. I didn't see anything that was directly like it. Maybe I missed it. I'll have to check at lunch.
I don't have to tell any of you how deep Art's style is in my subconcious. Yo ucan see it in a few of my posters. The type treatments he's created are some of the best.
i dunno
too me this doesn't really work
the letters are distessed but it doesn't follow any kind of sense of pressure from the vise.
maybe i'm being anal..?
I digs Jeff Kleinsmith. This was also HEAVILY Art Chantry influenced. Two of my heros. It's a pretty big ass poster too. Like 23 x 35. I gotta switch gears the last three I've done have been this pseudo distressed punk feel.
