art chantrySend art chantry a message :   this is mis-credited. this was designed by maire masco, who was the first promoter in seattle to book the surfers, sonic youth, meat puppets, husker du, mission of burma, scratch acid, etc. etc. even though she couldn't attend the shows because she was only 15 or so. they all slept on her floor (in a house where ted bundy used to be a roommate). she also formed paravda records with dennis white and was the first to sign a band called 'mr. epp' who didn't even have any instruments, they just made cool flyers. the band had mark arm in it and it was the genesis for green river, mudhoney and steel pole bathtub. she eventually quit the punk scene (she said she got tired of being spit on), and got a job at an upstart e-commerce place. i guess she was like #300 employee at amazon dot com. now she's rich. nobody in the seattle scene remembers her.
she also used to be bruce pavitt's girlfriend.

1982 B&W Xerox 11" x 17"
"NOTE: The U-District's venerable Rainbow Tavern, later re-christened the Fabulous Rainbow Tavern, survived the hippie sixties and the disco seventies to become a showcase for local and national acts working in esoteric or non-commercial areas. Everything from blues master to jazz to experimental classics to The Ramones has been presented without disaster. A notable feat for Seattle."
