I IMMEDIATELY thought HESS when I saw this stuff, but it's not a Total rip-off. And that Sister Hazel poster with the moon and the farmhouse is FANTASTIC. I think it's cool to be really influenced by a great artist [even to the point of imitation] and then go off in another direction with all that in your back pocket and kick ass in some new way.
The similarity is the angle of the image, but even then the exaggeration isn't there. Plus, there is a BACKGROUND. Pretty rare to find one of those in a Hess.
Well... I dunno about the Hess reference. Doesn't have that feel to me... But I really like this guys work. Something Plimpton-esque about it. Is that pencil? Excellent use of scale... I can say that the text on the road doesnt' do it for me (Bodega? Ugh). But the illo is nicely done indeed. At least it gives some sense of what Wilco does...
no puns + no muscles does not a non-hess make. i don't care if this guy was or wasn't inspired by Hess, these posters remind me of his stuff either way.
can we get 254 comments on this one? anyone? anyone?
This doesn't look like Hess, at least to me, too few muscles, his eyes are more than just a slat in his head, and it's not a really bad pun.
