I had seen a photo in Vanity Fair awhile back with a woman in a black veil: http://www.lamag.com/uploadedImages/LA_Mag/blogs/theSpyGlass/2008/10/gloria-large.jpg and I liked the idea of a transparent black veil as a design element.
