Have this one. Took it to a performance by Brad-singer Shawn Smith at Cafe' Du Nord in San Francisco. Got it signed -- and then ended up leaving it at the hostel where I was staying. I kicked myself but moved on. Then some kind soul mailed it to me. Bless you, whoever you are...
I'm jealous of Jermaines business plan and marketing strategy. Jermaine knows ho to get paiud, because he knows what people want. If I had half of his business sense I wouldn't be at my day job right now thats for sure
You're right, I am jealous of Jermaine. Jealous of his power to make people notice. I don't think his painting is any good, but still, to have the power to enrapture and enrage must be nice. To have 60 comments on everything you do, good or bad, must be nice. I converse with Jermaine and think he is a great guy, but I'm not gonna kiss his ass when it comes to critting his work. He takes it seriously and so do I.
For the record, Chew, I wasn't talking about how I didn't like it, I was talking about how if this was some newbie, it would be ignored. As Richie said.
And as for the "negative reaction carrying just as much importance as praise" argument, this image does not imply. That only has to do with content, not execution.
I rest my case, your honor.
See there Chew...you really don't know me. Me and Jermaine are friends. I totally respect what he's attempting here even though I don't think he's started off too strong. This one is the stronger of the 2 new painting posters. I'm not jealous of his sucess in any way. He's only gonna get better when he really strts to take control of this new thing of his. At the moment he's riding a wild horse. He'll tame it.
Geez and whats the point? The reason people are noticing this one is because it IS done by Jermaine and that attention he earned by his past work. Of course the known artists get noticed for everything they do. It aint fair but thats the way its been since forever. You guys really come off sounding bitter and jealous.
If nothing else, Jermaine has gotten our little artistic community to start talking and thinking more about the work we do.... look at all these comments!
he also likes long walks on the beach and quiet nights at home watching reruns of sitcoms....
i like that he is just doing, and doing what he wants... he had a sure thing and he tried something else..
eat me.
'Yep' to everyone. He's gonna do his work, and we're going to react.
I can only hope when I start doing screen printed posters that I get these kind of responses:
"Dude, your ink work was great, but you seriously suck ass as a screen printer."
"Jermaine is really good at making his fans happy."
Yup. While the rest of the folks are on here critiquing his work, he's busy keeping his fans in touch with his work.
I respect that.
Jermaine is really good at making his fans happy. he sends out these nice emails, he researches his stuff. hes doing good. we had many long talks...Jermaine has got a personal philosophy and his work reflects it, not the expectation of the crowd. He is true to himself and I respect that a lot. a whole lot. Jermaine is out to please his inner vision and not the culture vultures.
i agree with mr witt, its cool that someone like jermaine is broadening his horizons and exploring different avenues with his art, but i don't think his painting comes anywhere near his illustration work. i don't think he's a bad painter by any means but i don't think his painted images really reflect what a good illustrator and idea's person jermaine actually is.
No, it isn't quite to the same level of execution, but it will be if he keeps on this track. I think this is the first of his better painted posters. Strong, bold strokes and simplisity of message. Ahhhh... you're right, it comes down to taste. Just hope he's enjoying himself in the process!
Honestly I like the text. And again, the "success" of a poster comes down to effective communication of the "vibe" of the act... just my opinion of course. I think the text is hand done, the "t"s don't match up.
"Nothing against trying something new, but maybe spend more time developing it before displaying it before the world."
Thats the part that takes guts. Im with Maynard and Kozik. I like where this is going.
The text on here dont look computer generated. Look at it. Im almost willing to bet money that its hand done. I think this painting is better than the coldplay one. Youre right. It does make you feel Brad-at-a-coffee house. That Pearl Jam crowd loves this I bet.
It comes down to taste again, just like the discussion on the other new one.
I don't think it sucks, but it's not as strong as his other work because the image and the text don't get along.
With an image this rich in gesture, why use dry computer generated text. Paint it on there. making it wavy isn't enough.
I think this works better than the Coldplay one to bring across a more artsy and textural quality. This makes me imagine "Brad" playing at a coffeehouse. Wonder if that's accurate. I for one like seeing an artist try different things. It takes time to get really comfortable with any medium, so the initial attempts might have problems. But I applaude this one, it works for me (unless it's a punk/metal band or something...)
I'm officially not a fan of these new painted posters. He's a much better line guy than paint guy.
Nothing against trying something new, but maybe spend more time developing it before displaying it before the world.
