last night i happened into a trendy hollywood bar hosting an Obama victory party and was greeted by the stirring sounds of Journey's 1981 masterpiece, "Don't Stop Believing." The cheesy, manipulative, hit-you-over the-head-with-its-message-of-hope anthem gets 'em every time. and though we can see the resolution of that chorus coming from a mile away (as any sensible person could've foreseen Obama's landslide), it nevertheless succeeds in some sort of vague but emotionally powerful "uplift." then, the long fade-out back into reality.
i wonder if the McCain camp was clever enough to blast "Surrender" at their parties?
Journeys first drummer Ansley Dunbar wrote the song warning , featured on the first Black Sabbath album . Journeys ' roadies use to cruise my high school looking for teenage pussy
Boston is the sound of coked-up, knob-twiddling geeks. Journey is the sound of coked-up, skirt-chasing morons. i prefer the latter.
one thing i'm sure we can agree on, though - the Troggs were the greatest rocknroll band of all time
Cheap Trick had, like, 2 good songs. and for one of 'em they had to get a buncha Japanese girls to sing backup on it. Journey, on the other hand, has had more hits than Pete Rose, metaphorically speaking. "Faithfully?" Come on, that's a little slice of Prom-nite-slow-dance-ass-grabbin' heaven right there. And, Don't Stop Believin' in "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" - like a finely ripened wad of runny French cheese, it just gets better with age.
this is a fine poster for either band, i think. it brings to mind Rosenquist more than anything else, and he was sorta cheesy, too.
Look , I've changed my mind . It's all about free speech . this poster rules . A van with cheap trick on it shoots down any journey reference , nice lips too
Bottom line is Steve came through in a crunch with a kickass poster for one of our regular venues and he hit it out of the park. The bands and promotor were BEYOND THRILLED with this design. Doesn't really matter what anyone on here thinks. As far as if it should be more Journey - it was a co-headlining bill.
I wanted to show an American flag without an American flag and I didn't want to cheat Cheap Trick out of a cool poster simply because it had to say "Journey" on it too. Cheap Trick is a dream gig. Hadda make it count.
with the collage of all the different elements in different styles it's got a great late 60s pop art vibe going ( especially with the comic panel ala lichtenstein ). this style , imo, allways represented things going against the mainstream.........unfotunetely not the journey way. ironically if you'd have done a bland boring poster that sucked i think it would have been better suited to the fanbase.
I think I walked away from the computer after having hit post and then one of the kids messed with the computer while I was away...
I'm curious what concept you think people won't get... and not in a pissy way.
ummmmm........... hate to say this but.......... this might not be a very good gigposter. ok, hear me out before everyone rips me a new one. it works VERY well for cheap trick but i think this poster is TOO good for journey and the concept goes over the head of their fanbase ( and, more importantly, potential fan ).
just my 2¢. i'll be having my new one now.
