I've been in a conversation with you before too. It is sad that you made that girl listen to you. I can only imagine it took 45 minutes to finish explaining the mechanics of the the phonograph complete with non sequitors and anecdotes from all of your dead friends. Horrifying. Vote McCain.

on a lighter note... a number of years ago when i had my show at PS1/MOMA, there was a young gallery guard - turned out she was 18 - who was looking at some of my 45's hanging on the wall. she said - "these things actually make music?" i explained roughly how a record works (needle, little squiggles, amplification, etc.) she was really impressed. she'd never heard of such a thing before. she said her dad had some old records, but she never thought about them before. i pointed out how cool it was to have this chunk of colored plastic that has a song on it forever. a light went on in her eyes. she went back and stared at them for a long time. sad, but cute story.
