I called that type up and asked to borrow some money and that type lent me said money then said I didn't have to pay it back and followed with a "merry Xmas" without ever getting me a real gift.
I don't know what all the hub-bub is all about on this one, yeah the type sucks but beyond that it's really not that bad, there's obviously a million times worse posters on here.
I have never posted a negative comment before and I have not read anything in this thread - having said that, no matter what Jon Hicks did or said it cannot be worth having to see this image every single day. At least the Rifle Sport/Ratt posters are funny - can we PLEASE ignore this one for a while? Huh? Please?
I think that the idea behind this poster is pretty cool, but the type is lacking. Its not even the font that you chose..its the fact that there is no meaning or idea in its placement...the perspective is non existent and the okkervil text looks as if it was an afterthought. It has no relation to what else is happening. Also the date doesn't even line up properly to the beam of red thats coming out. If thats not what you were going for then you failed to get across what you were going for. I wouldn't think it has so much to do with "indie cred" and maybe listen and learn...thats how you get better.
urban outfitters no longer take indie cred. plus big sunglasses are out new kanye west futuristic glasses are the new in. and american apparel is still on top because their shirts are mad way comfortable.
Street cred died a overused death a long time ago. If thats really what you think then its kind of sad. I make posters because I like to, I post here because people generally have something constructive to say. Whether I agree with them or not, I like to here the opposing point. But not when it gets to a lame jr. high level.
Well I agree with everyone on the type. But also I think what kind of bugs me (and maybe it's a matter of taste) is that that you have the type section almost as big as that big ass camera. There's no real contrast in size and they seem to compete for attention and since the type isn't too terribly interesting I just want to look at the big camera and nothing else.
Looks like you guys are making my case for me. Thanks! And yes I was going for more of a weird deconstructed look. Rather than just a rehash of an old Sci-Fi poster.
Wow the level of intelligence has dropped dramatically on this subject. The internet is a free forum so if you can't take it then don't dish it out. If you want to say it sucks then I can react whatever way I want. FREE FORUM My skin is thick enough and at least I haven't resorted to name calling. But then again I have better things to do than trash other people's art to get some "indie cred" among my peers.
The type is what doesn't work for me. I mean, you're doing this Sci-Fi film moment with this War of the World/cameras motif and you use this plain font with initial caps? To me, the type makes the whole image a little like a Dadaist magazine/leaflet cover. But, maybe that's what you were going for. If you had used a retro Sci-Fi film font or hand drawn something that evoked the era, it would've put it out of the park.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if all you have to say is this is a "type nightmare" then don't expect me to take you seriously. I appreciate the comment from Warm because it was constructive. Even though I don't agree, because that wasn't the angle I wanted it to go.
I dig this one, but these folks are right about the type. The initial caps are kind of goofy looking (that tall 8 is no good either) + it doesn't work well with that red space you've carved out for it. Looks like you spent zero time on the type. It could have had an old horror/sci-fi feel + worked within the composition without being handrawn. Don't be defensive man, we've all got tons of stuff to learn.
snarky response. p.s. i dont like the type either, but the img and everything else is awesome. hand drawn lettering would have looked less clumsy is all.
