even though this image is from "incredibly strange creatures" by ray dennis steckler (the very first monster musical!), i read in that BFI book on romero's "night of the living dead" that romero and the other folks who made the film tried to reclaim control of the movie when their distributor bankrupted. the movie had be re-named and re-released under several titles by then. they frantically re-titled it back to the original titles and re-released it themselves to reclaim their copyright. unfortunately, they forgot to include the "C" copyright notice in their re-titling frames. the result was that "night of the living dead" is now public domain. it's free game for everyone!
wild, huh?
i just read that "BFI" book on 'night of the living dead' last evening. i had no idea how big a deal that movie was. i mean, i had SOME idea, but, man, that thing really was an important work of Art.
pretty cool.
