Bob Peak was a Hollywood illustrator. He's dead now, spent most of his days drunk. But he did a shitload of movie posters in this same manner. I saw him speak to a buttload of us illistrators at University of Houston. He showed slides of his work which included Star Wars posters and Star Trek posters among others. A poster like the one above would take him maybe two hours to complete. He was the master of using simple effective tricks to accomplish dramatic effect. Combined with a natural ability to draw the human face, or anything for that matter, to the T and on the first go round. In addition he owned like three Ferraris and had a girlfriend who posed for Hustler. Very inspirational man.
sometimes i just don't get this stuff. someone swipes the artwork from Killer Force, makes a font blend in well, and suddenly it's "perfect" and "amazing"? I'd argue that the original poster art was perfect and amazing. i think the lower half of the page - the only original stuff added - is pretty damned mediocre. he found a good font.
